PAD 11: Defense Against Dark Arts

Today’s prompt is to write a defensive poem.

Defense Against Dark Arts

Your smile is a weapon

Against the darkness that threatens

From both without

And within.

Your kind words, a sincere compliment,

Incanted at an unexpected time,

Are a spell against the doldrums

In the seasons of life.

Your small gestures, opening a door

Or offering a seat, are a shield

Against the despair that makes us believe

We are alone.

Your hugs and kisses are a stronghold

Against the dejection that attacks

The soul.

These are your armaments:

Wield them with abandon

And extinguish the Dark.
