PAD 14: Time Out

Today’s prompt is to write a time out poem, so I channeled my love of jazz, put on my copy of Dave Brubeck’s Time Out, particularly his hit “Take Five” (though in all honesty, I just let the album go) and wrote this poem. I hope you dig it.

Time Out

Soft drums brush across the surface

Foot pedal keeps the beat

The piano chimes in

In steady motion

Bum bah bum bah bah

The saxophone sings its

Distinctive melody.

She pleas with you to listen,

Cajoles you to hear her,

Entreats you entertain

Her notion

And then drops out.

The piano and drums chant on.

Take five,

Listen, and

Before the song ends.
